In Asia, buffalo is mainly used as a labor force; in Europe, Italy, Romania, and Bulgaria, it is used as a cow or as a food cow. Today, there are wild buffaloes in India, Nepal, Bhutan and Thailand, as well as in northern Australia.
The origin of wild buffaloes in Southeast Asia is not very clear. They may be the offspring of domesticated buffaloes that have become wild again, or the offspring of native wild buffaloes, or the mating products of the two. There are quite a few wild buffaloes today.
